MHA Spotlight

Meet
Simmy Wolf
As a volunteer organization, Mental Health America relies on the dedication
of many different types of individuals who help us further our mission and
delivery of services. One such professional is Simmy Wolf.
In addition to her work at Behavioral Health Response (BHR), Simmy
plays an integral role in Street Talk, the quarterly
newsletter for law enforcement in Eastern Missouri. Simmy’s skills
transform a collection of articles, pictures and graphics into a coherent
print product. She is responsible for layout, graphics, all aspects of print
production, and oversight of mail distribution. Mental Health America, along
with its Street Talk partners – BHR and the Street Talk
Advisory Board – thank Simmy for all her hard work that helps make the
newsletter possible!
Simmy joined Behavioral
Health Response in 2001 as Administrative Assistant to the president/CEO.
In her current position as Office Manager, she additionally coordinates
in-house agency events and oversees the agency’s fundraising for the
Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. She also has duties within the Finance
Department, and is responsible for health and safety procedures for all
staff.
Thank you to our Open Mind respondents
through the years!
For decades, mental health professionals in the
St. Louis area have been kind enough to
volunteer their time and expertise to answer questions posed by consumers in
our Open Mind column, appearing in local publications, including the
St. Louis Globe-Democrat, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch,
and the Suburban Journals all over the metro area. Open
Mind is no longer being published, but we maintain an
archive of articles that
continue to be valid examples of the expertise of our local mental health
professional community. Thanks!

Free Drug Education Materials
from NIDA The National
Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is the lead Federal agency for research on
drug abuse and addiction, and like the National Mental Health Association,
NIDA works to prevent substance abuse among our Nation's youth, schools, and
communities. To that effort, NIDA has created the NIDA Goes Back to School (NGBTS)
campaign for children, teens, and the adults who influence them, including
science/health teachers, curriculum developers, science chairpersons, school
nurses/counselors, and youth-health advocates. The campaign is a source for
FREE science-based publications and teaching materials for grades K-12. The
materials emphasize the consequences of drug abuse on the brain and the
body, and aim to increase scientific literacy. Visit
www.BacktoSchool.drugabuse.gov
or call (800) 729-6686 to order FREE publications and teaching materials for
grades K-12. |

What's your Line? Tell us your specialty or area of
special interest. We are frequently asked to make referrals to
mental health professionals with specific skills or specialty areas,
such as ADHD children, Bi-Polar children, Respite Care, Group Therapy,
etc. Call us at 314-773-1399 or send e-mail to
info@mhaem.org, with "Practice
Specialty" in the subject line.
In
particular, we see a need in the community for low cost anger
management therapy, especially in groups. We often get requests
for information for such a service. Some callers are
self-referred, while others are court-ordered. As you might
expect, those in the court-ordered group are usually those with the
fewest resources to pay for services. Professionals and agencies
looking to increase their client base and diversify their services may
wish to move in this direction. |
